Lisa Marie Esposito, a self-taught painter, works exclusively in acrylics and frequently on large scale canvases. Aesthetically, she feels a strong affinity for the early Modernists and Abstract Expressionists of the early to mid-20th century. Philosophically, her art work is also influenced by the thought of ancient Greek philosophers such as Pythagoras and Plato, the Eastern wisdom traditions of Buddhism and Taoism, and the 19th century New England author, Henry David Thoreau. Much of her work is wholly non-representational and employs dramatic contrasts of high intensity, double-complementary colors and large, blended color fields. Her compositions arise spontaneously from a harnessing of saturated color, form, movement and energy.
